South Texas Chapter Hall of Honor

Lewis Stroud
The South Texas Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials is proud to have Lewis Stroud as the first member of the its Hall of Honor.

One of the original four members of the chapter, Lewis served the chapter for over 25 years in almost every capacity - including president, secretary, and treasurer.  Today, the South Texas Chapter has almost 80 members and is recognized around the state.  The success of the Chapter today would not have been possible without the work of Lewis Stroud.

After graduating from Devine High School in 1962 where he starred in football, basketball, and track, Lewis attended Sul Ross State University.  It was there that he began his basketball officiating career, calling intramural basketball.  Following his graduation in 1967, Lewis returned to Devine where he began his teaching career and has remained to this day, becoming a local icon and noted civic leader, belonging to numerous community organizations.  Legend has it that he met his wife Marsha while on the basketball court when she was a junior high coach at Devine.  Lewis and Marsha have two sons and have been married over 30 years.

A role model to all that know him, Lewis reputation as an outstanding official in both football and basketball is widespread throughout the state of Texas and he still approaches officiating with youthful enthusiasm.  Lewis was the South Texas Chapter's unanimous selection as its first Honorary Life Member in 1998.  The truest measure of a referees' abilities can only be made by his peers, and Lewis Stroud is as the top of the list, both as an official and as a gentleman.
